Guest On-Ice Instructors for Summer 2026
Coach Timothy McVaugh was born and raised in Hamilton, NY. He graduated from Bowdoin College in 2007, where he majored in American History and played ice hockey. Voted MVP by his teammates, Tim was also elected team captain for his final season. Off the ice at Bowdoin, Tim worked for the college as assistant sports information director and did his best to explore the Maine coast. After graduating, Tim played professionally in Germany for one season, helping his squad win the league championship.
Coach Tim came to Deerfield in the fall of 2008, and served as the assistant boys hockey coach for eight seasons before taking the head coaching position in the fall of 2016. In the spring, In addition to attending a wide range of showcases and camps in the Northeast and Canada, Tim has worked at regional USA Player Development Camps in the Southeastern, Pacific, and Rocky Mountain Districts.
Coach Craig Badger, a native of Clinton, New York, was a defenseman on the Wesleyan Division III Men's hockey team for four years and after graduation served as the Assistant Men's Hockey coach at Williams College for one season. He has been head coach of the Frederick Gunn (Gunnery) Boys Varsity Hockey Team since 2015, and is also Senior Associate Director of Admissions
Coach Larry Vieira is the Notre Dame West Haven varsity boys hockey head coach. Coach Vieira has won 414 games over a 34 year career coaching at the high school level in Connecticut
Coach Paul Russell joined Trinity College after serving as an assistant coach at Curry College for the past two seasons. With the help of Russell, the Colonels posted a 43-12-2 record, including a pair of 20-win seasons, with a 31-7-1 mark in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The Colonels advanced to the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship Quarterfinals twice while Russell was at Curry, earning a Top-10 ranking both seasons, including being ranked sixth in the nation at the end of the 2023-24 season
As a student-athlete, Russell was a member of the Norwich University Men’s Ice Hockey program for four seasons. Russell registered 54 career points with 35 goals and 19 assists in 95 career games. Russell and the Cadets made three trips to the NCAA Division III Men’s Ice Hockey Championship Tournament, and won the program’s fourth National Championship during his senior season in 2017. Russell led the Cadets in goals as a junior and helped Norwich to a pair of East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) East Championships (2014, 2015) and a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Title in 2017. Russell was a two-time NEHC All-Academic Team selection, and earned NEHC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors
Coach Matthew Goethals is officially back on board for the Newington Spring Hockey 2026 season. Coach Matthew is the Pomfret varsity boys hockey head coach. He played NCAA Division III college hockey at Williams College
Coach Andrew DeCasperis is the Avon Old Farms assistant varsity hockey coach, and also teaches English at the school
At Taft, Coach Dan Calore teaches math, physics, and coaches boys varsity ice hockey
